Convened by the Global Alliance for Care, the Care Pavilion today held its second day of activities within the framework of the XVI Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean. Throughout the day, multiple voices agreed on the need to transform care systems from feminist, intersectional, and territorial perspectives.

The morning opened with the panel “Advocacy strategies to advance the care agenda in Mexico”, which showcased the work of the Coalition for the Right to Dignified Care and Women’s Own Time as an example of coordination among civil society, academia, and feminist organizations to influence public and legislative agendas. In parallel, the session “Paternity and Care” presented recent research on new ways of practicing co-responsible fatherhood in Mexico, highlighting its role in the fair redistribution of domestic and care work.

A territorial and intersectional approach was present in the dialogue “Building local autonomy for a caring society”, which analyzed cross-sector strategies to address early unions and unequal care systems, and was also reflected in the conversation “Caring for Each Other Beyond the Life Cycle”, which discussed the importance of integrating care throughout all stages of life.

The session “Patriarchal Masculinity and Power”, organized with the participation of UN Women and the IDB, questioned the patriarchal structures that sustain inequalities, proposing transformative leadership as a foundation for substantive equality.

In the afternoon, the discussion “European Union care policies in Latin America and the Caribbean” presented bilateral cooperation instruments between the two regions to strengthen care systems.

Other highlighted topics included the session “Yes to Care, and Support for Independent Living as Well”, which addressed the right to autonomy for persons with disabilities.

The evening concluded with the long-awaited Official Inauguration of the City of Care, located on Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, very close to the Tlatelolco Cultural Center and the Care Pavilion. This milestone brings together, for the first time, public care services offered by the Mexico City Care System, open to the general public and conference participants, consolidating a model of a care-sensitive conference.

The Care Pavilion is made possible thanks to the support of Alliance members such as Avina Foundation, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Fondo Semillas, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Analysis Group for Development (GRADE), International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Simone de Beauvoir Leadership Institute (ILSB), Oxfam, and The Hunger Project.
