ASDOWN Colombia is a family-based organization founded over 15 years ago with the purpose of guiding and informing all people with intellectual disabilities, without exception, and their families about the opportunities, resources, and tools available to build a full, autonomous, and meaningful life in society. The organization supports families at any stage of the life cycle of a person with an intellectual disability, advocates for the protection and fulfillment of their rights, and helps create pathways so that inclusion can be experienced in all its forms.ASDOWN Colombia has firsthand experience with the concerns, questions, fears, and uncertainties that families may face when they learn that a person with an intellectual disability has joined their household. This lived experience allows the organization to provide informed, empathetic, and close support. Although its name refers to Down syndrome, ASDOWN Colombia works to promote and defend the rights of all people with intellectual disabilities. Its role is to lead communication and educational campaigns and initiatives aimed at raising social awareness, promoting respect for diversity, and strengthening a more just and inclusive society.
